Wetting of the plate

Mouillage de la plaque
Mouillage de la plaque avec le mélange eau - glycérine

(preliminary operation: wetting with glycerine)

PRELIMINARY OPERATION :

    1. Insert a sheet of white paper under the glass slab during printing to avoid breakage, and especially to see the image when inking.

    2. Régler et immobiliser la dalle de verre grâce aux cales métalliques sur la marbre de la presse en intercalant un petit morceau de cuir entre les cales et la glace.

FIRST ANCHORING OF THE PLATE (with GLYCERINE preparation) :

The wetting of the ready-to-print plates is carried out with a mixture of glycerine and water, to which some additives are optionally added according to the desired purpose, according to the table below. The basic preparation consists of 2/3 glycerin + 1/3 water and is sufficient in most cases.

The mixture is poured on the slab to a thickness of 2 to 3 mm, being careful to spread it at the edge of the rounded edges of the plates so that there is no dry part, otherwise they would inevitably retain the ink when passing the rollers. Be careful not to run this preparation off the plate, which happens frequently!

Using a natural sponge soaked in preparation, ensure the first wetting of the plate by successive touches.

Then pour this preparation over the entire surface, so as to obtain an even layer of 2 to 3 mm thick. Spread with your fingers without pressing.

The mixture is spread by hand over the entire surface of the plate

Be sure to eliminate all bubbles. Maintain the wetting for 20 to 30 minutes. Then, pick up the solution with a sponge, then dab by hand with a soft cloth (cotton). Perfect the wiping. This first mooring can be done alone, the day before the draw. The consistency of the tests during the draw will be facilitated.

NOTE: Modification of the basic formulation of the mooring bath: in dry weather, force on water, and in wet weather, on glycerin.
